Located in the Ringstrasse, on Maria-Theresien-Platz, this lavish, Renaissance-style building is one of Vienna's treasures and is also one of the finest museums in the world. Its exhibits include centuries-old Habsburg collections of Italian and Flemish masterpieces and the largest number of works in existence by Pieter Bruegel the Elder, including his famous 'Hunters in the Snow'. Of particular interest is 'Susanna and the Elders' by Tintoretto and some superb views of 18th-century Vienna by Bernardo Belotto. The main galleries house the large-scale works and the side wings display the masterpieces in a more intimate fashion.
